Before you, I’d forgotten about balance. Forgotten that I could be serious and spontaneous – settled in one part of my life and getting lost in another. Forgotten that at twenty-three I’m not supposed to have all my shit together.

You made me realise that it’s ok to not be the person I thought I would be five years ago. More importantly, you made me realise that it’s time to reinvent myself and that needing to do so isn’t such a bad thing.

Even though you have no idea, I’d like to thank you for changing my life.

“A Jackal in the yellow”

I have always loved photography.  However, it has always been a interest that I’ve kept close to heart.  This was mainly because the camera I started taking photos with, a Cannon 350D, was not my own, and I had absolutely no idea how to use it so took all my photos on auto.

But one of the perks of having a full time day job, is that you can budget and save each month.  Eventually meaning that you can afford “big ticket items” without the help of your mommy or daddy.  Which is exactly what I did!  After 3 months of petrol and beer restrictions, and copious amounts of Friends reruns, I spotted an awesome deal for a Cannon 650D.

Needless to say I got it, and despite the dent in my savings, have never looked back!  It was only then that I started experimenting with all the different settings, and found that camera’s are not quite as complicated as I had once imagine.  This new found discovery, somehow made me more confident in my photographic abilities, and I started showing more people (obviously still close friends and family) some of my favorite photos.

This morning I decided “Fuck it “, photography is something that I love and the only way I am ever going to get better is through constructive criticism.  While I love my friends and family, most of them don’t know anything about photography other than how to point, shoot, and how to get the best selfie.

So I signed up to the National Geographic – Your Shot Photo Community and have uploaded one of my favorite photos for the world to criticize (Link attached).  Lets hope the world doesn’t chew up my photos up and spit them out!

Welcome to the Berning blog!

With 2014 still in its infancy I thought it was about time that I started my very own blog, and thus the Berning Blog was born!  My idea is to document all the adventures, recipes, and things that I love, with the hopes of keeping myself inspired and moving forward.
